Valentines for Vets 2018
The County Library in Edinburg is collecting store-bought or handmade cards to be delivered to the veterans at the VA hospital. Make a card at the craft table in the children's area or drop off cards from home! All cards collected by February 9 will be hand-delivered by a local homeschooling group.
Adventures in Gardening at New Market
Join us at the New Market Area Library as we undertake new "Adventures in Gardening" every 4th Saturday of the month. On February 24 at 3:00 pm, we welcome Elaine Specht, whose talk is entitled "Berries: The Easy and Attractive Way to Grow Fruit in Your Landscape." New Market Program
Join us at the New Market Area Library on Saturday, January 20 at 3:00 pm as we welcome Brent L. Kendrick, who will share with us the true story of Mary "Polly" Conner Slaughter, forced to feed Union soldiers with the only thing she had left: honey, stored in a wedding-day crock. Her story ricochets through the ages; come find out what happens!
Garber Photograph Party
Join the library and the Mt. Jackson Museum at the Mt. Jackson Town Hall on January 20 from 1-4PM for a special event to celebrate the digitization of 500 historic photographs by William Hoyle Garber of Mt. Jackson and share your knowledge of those places captured by Garber's lens.
The County Library will be closed Monday, January 15 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, January 16. For the schedules of our locations, please contact these libraries directly.
Basye Foreign Film Festival
The Basye-Orkney Springs Community Library will host a Foreign Film Festival every Thursday in January at 3:00 pm. Enjoy four internationally acclaimed films from Italy, Spain, and France. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served. Call or visit the library to learn the titles. Seating is limited, so plan to arrive when doors open at 2:40 pm. We hope to see you there!

County Library Book Sale
While you're visiting the County Library, be sure to browse through our large collection of sale books. All are in great condition, and most titles are priced at just $2.00 each. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Shenandoah County Library System.
Books and Babies at the County Library
Caregivers are invited to bring their little ones to our special story time program, Books and Babies, at our County Library branch in Edinburg. This story time is specially designed for children ages 0-24 months with stories, nursery rhymes, familiar songs, and puppets. Books and Babies meets year-round on Thursday mornings at 10:30. The story time is followed by an open playgroup for kids and parents to play and socialize. Older siblings are welcome to attend as well.
Lego Club will meet on January 4 and 18 at 4:30pm. All Lego fans ages 5+ are invited to join us for an afternoon of building, snacks, and fun at the County Library. We provide the Legos; you provide the imagination! Always free and no registration is required. Lego Club meets regularly on the first and third Thursdays of each month during the school year.
